History

Nowapara Jute Mills Limited (NJML) was established by Mr. Ahmed Ali Sarder in 1967 as a public limited company. Late Ahmed Ali Sarder was a legendary businessman and politician in Jessore, Bangladesh. In the 1960s, he was an elected member of the national parliament for nearly a decade. He is also renowned as a philanthropist for having founded several schools, colleges and charitable institutions in Jessore and Khulna, Bangladesh.

In 1972, along with all other Jute mills in Bangladesh, NJML was nationalized by the government and placed under the custody of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation. In 1982, NJML was returned to the original owners who have been managing and operating the company successfully ever since.
